Living in the Deep End Isn’t Always Easy…
My daughter, Brittni, called the other day to share some of the things that were going on in her life. She needed her mama – she was struggling. She’s been wrestling through some huge changes, facing some uncomfortable emotions and is dealing with REAL life. As I listened I couldn’t help but think that what she was struggling with was due to the fact that she lives in the deep end. She has made choices to grow and risk and as the result life gets tough. The deep end is messy. It sounds good until we’re in the thick of it – then it gets scary.
Brittni’s commitment to going deep, going after her dreams and living life REAL – inspires me. She’s continually pushes herself out of her comfort zone and strives to know herself more each day. I’m so proud of who she is and so excited for what God has in store for her. In January she’ll be going off to Belize for 5 months. I can’t even imagine all that she’ll experience and how much she’ll learn through this trip. It’s definitely a deep end experience – for her and for our family.
The reality about living in the deep end is that it doesn’t only affect us. When we choose to live life full out in the deep end – we impact and inspire others. Brittni inspires me. I’m excited for her and I will miss her. It’s scary to let go. Yet I have a choice. I can either support and encourage her or get stuck in fear about her going.
We all have choices. First I get to choose if I’m willing to live in the deep end or not. Second I get to choose if I’ll support and encourage others to live in the deep end. Both choices have an impact on the world. I enlarge or limit my life depending on where I choose to live. I can either encourage or discourage others.
The more I’m able to live my own life in the deep end – the more I’m able to truly support and encourage others to do the same. The more time I spend being small and living inside my comfort zone – the more I tend to discount others who have big dreams. Another reminder that change truly does start with me.
Are you ready to live in the deep end? If so – jump in and encourage others to do the same.
