What Do You Want To Be When You Grow Up?

Look back. The past can tell us a great deal. Look for patterns and trends. What types of things have you always gravitated towards or ended up doing? What has always lit your fire?

Take money out of the equation. We too often make decisions about our life and our future solely based on our need for money. What would you do if money were not an issue? Get really honest with yourself about this.

Ask for feedback from people you trust. Ask those closest to you to tell you what they think your strengths are. Ask them to give you suggestions as to how you could use those strengths. Ask them to identify what they think could be your key career or role in this world.

Spend time alone. The best way to really know ourselves better is to spend time alone. Get away alone on a regular basis. No people, no technology, no distractions – just time with yourself.

Slow down. Slowing down will help you to spend more time reflecting and feeling. We are so busy that we don’t take time to reflect on what is happening or to feel what we are feeling. Slowing down will help us to get more in touch with ourselves and our surroundings.

Give yourself a break. Stop being so hard on yourself. If you are out of work or stuck in a dead end job – it’s okay. Stop beating yourself up and be gentle with yourself.

Accept the questions. Give yourself permission to question and dig deep. You don’ have to change anything today. Just give yourself permission to explore what is possible.
